BUZZ! THE ULTIMATE MUSIC QUIZ

Sony
PS3 (also on PSP)

It’s a bloody outrage it is! Somebody’s kidnapped the Buzz we all know and love (to abuse, lovingly) and replaced him with some inferior, normally-proportioned bloke. We want our Muppet back! Actually, that may be the reason for the impostor’s arrival…

Not only is Buzz now not Buzz, he’s much less omnipresent. Instead, Pommie geezer ‘Greg’ does the interrogating. Was Jase Donovan too busy? We wouldn’t think his schedule would be that tight nowadays.

So, a dedicated music triv quiz – we couldn’t have been happier when we saw this sashaying up the release schedule. The Buzz! treatment given to one of our favourite subjects in the world, especially after the triumph that was Buzz! Quiz World? How could it go wrong? Well, our host isn’t the only thing that’s been fucked up.

Music games need music to work. Whilst B!TUMQ has licensed music vids – and some ace ones from our personal, Brit-centric fangal POV – it’s riddled with piss-poor, muzakesque, ear-assaulting, off the shite charts, crapulescent, unrecognisably bad cover versions (hello Jarvis!) of songs questions are asked about; questions where you’re supposed to recognise the song... questions such as all of those in the ‘Final Countdown’ round. Can you guess the problem?

Most of the ingredients for a crackingly entertaining music quiz game are here. Styles spanned, inclusion of less mainstream stuff, some Move lovin’ via some so-so gimmicky rounds –  even the ability to stick your mug into your onscreen character’s facehole - but the game’s often rendered nigh-on unplayable due to those SHIT covers.

When you’re panicking in the final round and dark-stabbing because the crap you be hearin’ sounds nothing like what it’s apparently supposed to be, then that’s BAD. We want the real Buzz(!) back. Pout.

take me back to the start...
