COMPANY OF HEROES 2
SEGA
PC
Pretty much everything that we know about war we learned from
Culture Club. Basically, it’s stupid.
Obviously that leaves
us completely unequipped to take on something as significant as a
new Company of Heroes. Luckily, however, we have the
mercurial Mal Collins, war-head supreme, on hand to save our
arses...
“As a HUGE fan of the original Company of Heroes,
I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of this follow-up.
Luckily, I was not disappointed and you military RTS fans out there
are in for a sturdy, satisfying experience with this sequel from
Relic.
Whilst CoH2’s graphics are good, they don’t
feature any blow-me-away innovations. But the sound’s really
impressive, making you feel like you’re a part of the explosive
blasting action.
Full of action and staying very true to the
original, the game has introduced a few solid gameplay improvements
that ensure that it feels nice and keeps it somewhat fresh. Campaign
mode is well-directed, with awesome cutscenes and a knack for really
making you feel like you’re watching the WWII action right on your
monitor.
The lengthy and well-storied single player campaign
is supplemented with great multiplayer support. I was easily able to
find other challenging players to battle, and the great faction
balancing ensured some really tight and interesting battles were
had. A huge amount of customisation like unit specialisation,
commander and vehicle tweaking make it a game that’s sure to keep
you interested long term.
The introduction of a new winter
season element, which negatively effects your infantry troops’
abilities, adds an interesting tactical spin.
In short, I’m
glad that this sequel hasn’t varied hugely in terms of gameplay, as
the original’s well tried and tested formula was excellent and, with
a fresh coat of paint plus a couple more tweaks here and there, we
the fans now have something even better!”
