DANCE ON BROADWAY

Ubisoft
PS3/Move (also on Wii)

The costumes, the scenery, the makeup, the props. The headaches, the heartaches, the backaches, the flops. Welcome to Broadway baby...

There are those, we suppose, who love musicals. The whole story-plodding-along-nicely-until-somebody’s just got to... just got to... just got to SING thing. We weren’t born to stand still, and everyone has their own special dream, so come on babe, look at me and tell me what you see, look at my ‘ass’ I’m gonna be a mighty king. The name on everybody’s lips is gonna be, um-diddle-diddle-diddle-um-diddle-ay, I got it! You can’t stop an avalanche! What good is sitting all alone in your room? You want my all my love and my devotion then let the sunshine in, ease on down the road to the little shop ‘cos diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

Wondering what the fuck that was all about? You’re obviously not into musicals. So, now we’ve lyric-checked most of the Dance on Broadway songs, what’s it all about (Alfie?).

It’s one of the first dance-based games supporting the PS3 Move. Useable with one (OK) or two (better), it features 25 cover (BOO!) tunes nabbed from Broadway to dance up a storm to. You’ll need to, too, as few are unlocked at start-up. You have to be seriously non-crap to get more to play with.

Limitations that plague such games on Wii exist here too. You can cheat by waggling the right way whilst slothing it up on the couch. But get into the spirit and any lover of musicals will have a blast, especially in party mode – at least briefly. The problem is the limited playlist. 25 songs just ain’t enough.

DoB may be fine when the moon is in the seventh house, but in reality it’s just too limited to be astounding.

take me back to the start...
