DRAW SLASHER

Mass Creation

Vita/PSN

We love English. To some, a slash may be a punctuation mark. To Americans it could be fallen tree debris. To others, a swipe with something with which you can swipe. Meanwhile, for some it’s having a piddle...

Now, if Draw Slasher was about somebody creating doodles with their, well, doodles (us girls just don’t have as controllable an inbuilt aiming mechanism) it could be a wee bit of fun.... But if it were about a teensy ninja battling waves of piratemonkeyzombies it could be a laugh as well. Needless to say, the latter’s what we get in this touchtational extravaganza of touchy-feely slashiness.

It’s all controlled with your index finger. Or, to head off any smartarses, any other finger you should choose. Or fuck it, toes if you’re really dexterous. You send little squirt Hanzo scurrying about the screen, running and jumping and going hyper-Ginsu on anything slashable that may have the misfortune of existing. Generally, this is a varied assortment of piratemonkeyzombies, with assorted strengths and weaknesses for you to suss.

If it sounds Fruit Ninjaistic then you’d be right, in fact there’s even a widdle tribute in the story mode to head off those coughing “RIPOFF!” But DS bolsters things with more variety, strength levelling-up, gradual addition of ‘jutsu’ powers, extra dexterity challenges and, bummerifically, more frustration.

Yep, while initially the finger controls work more treaty-like than a Yothu Yindi tribute band, cracks appear as you progress. When you can’t make out what’s what from myriad layers of purplemonkeydishwashers yet have to target specific ones, or need to perform nanosecond-whiz-perfect rhythm game-like screen stabbing then you may feel duty-bound to hurl your Vita at something solid. Which can be costly.

It’s no piece of piss, no number one and unimaginatively titled, but Draw Slasher’s affordable and has mucho life for patient types. So, point Percy at the PSN...

take me back to the start...
