GRAND THEFT AUTO - EPISODES FROM LIBERTY CITY

Rockstar Games
PS3 (also on Xbox 360, PC)

Yeah, yeah (and a third one just for fans of The Beatles), it’s been on the 360 for yonks now. Who’d-a-thunk Micro$oft had enough cash to buy an exclusive?!

So, now that enough time’s ticked, the subtly named Rockstar (it does beat the former ‘DMA Design’ by about a squizzillion cool points) have let loose two extra episodes for the insanely popular – and insanely infamous - GTA series on PS3 and PC.

Available as DLC, or on disc and playable without the original GTA IV – we recommend the latter as you get something solid for about the same price - first up is The Lost & the Damned. It’s a wannabe (or indeed actual) biker’s soggy dream, bringing more to the franchise than just another story. Motorcycle controls have gained a much-needed tweak and are now awesome fun, plus you get to see Liberty City from the POV of somebody other than Nico Bellic.

Despite a title that may make anybody a touch uncomfy with their sexuality squirm, The Ballad of Gay Tony really brings the fab, as you become a drug-dealing bodyguard with the glides-off-the-tongue moniker Luis Fernando (insert gag about drums here) Lopez. It gives GTA the glitzy glam treatment, and it’s pretty bloody fun to boot.

Cheaper than a single game, and offering enough hours of play – not to mention bags of new songs, DJs, teev content and more - to satisfy the most desperate wannabe gangsta, Episodes from Liberty City breathes life into a two year old game. In these days of blink and you’ll miss-it-ness, that’s pretty damned impressive.

Respec’!

take me back to the start...
