LEGO MARVEL AVENGERS
TT Games/WB Games
Thankfully the Avengers aren’t sick and tired of assembling, because
they’re back – and being LEGO, some assembly is required.
LEGO Marvel Avengers, the troupe’s second foray into blocky
gamingness, grabs six movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe –
The Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron,
Iron Man 3, Captain America: The First Avenger,
Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Thor: The Dark
World - disassembles them, chucks the blocks into a boxy thing
then makes something new and quite wonderful from them. So it
adheres to the very spirit of LEGO.
It also plunders most
audio from those actual movies, with extra bits provided by the
likes of (pissweak spoiler alert) Lou Ferrigno, the original Hulk.
As fans will be more than well aware, this Marvel Cinematic
Universe is a really, really big place. Add locations from the
comics and various TV series and it becomes mindbogglingly
humongous. How humongous? Over 200 characters – with varying
abilities, natch - humongous, that’s how humongous. Humongous,
humongous, humongous!
Ahem.
New York City is the main
joint that you’ll play around in, but you can variously nick off to
other relevant places as diverse as the Hellicarrier, Thor’s
stomping ground Asgard and, presumably for a spot of relaxation,
Malibu (say hi to Stacey for us, won’t you?)
If you’ve played
any other LEGO game then you’ll feel at home. Occasional wilfully
obscure puzzles still pop up and you’ll sometimes feel lost, but
when that ‘A-ha!’ moment comes you’ll be down with it – and unable
to get ‘Take On Me’ out of your head for weeks.
Bulging with
the often genre-pisstaking LEGO game humour that fans know and love,
Marvel purists may baulk at this, but phooey to them for being so
po-faced.
LEGO Marvel Avengers is another ace blocky
adventure, addictive enough that you’ll be playing ’til your thumbs
are Thor...
