PUZZLE DIMENSION
Doctor
Entertainment
PS3/PSN (also on PC, Mac)
Doctor Who.
He’s been around. Flitting through time and space willy-nilly, yet
somehow he’s never come across any of these seemingly commonplace
puzzle worlds that just kinda hover, waiting for hapless sods to
stumble in so that they can completely fuck with their brains.
Fantastic!
Puzzle Dimension’s another
ladies-and-gentlemen-we’re-floating-in-space mind-bendy thing,
working in much the same way the likes of Echochrome,
Ilomilo and Kula World
grab spatial physics by the ’nads then twist and turn with gay
abandon. Had a big lunch that’s not sitting right? Have fun,
sweetie...
We mentioned classic PSX puzzler Kula World back there, and
that’s what Puzzle Dimension reminds us of most. You control
a ball which can move towards any compass point, as long as it’s one
of the big four – none of this new-fangled diagonal crap. You roll
about gravity-defying platforms gathering sunflowers – aww! - before
naffing off through a portal to the next synapse-sizzling adventure
out of the 100 featured (all in scrummy 1080p with funktastic
chiptune-versus-MIDI mash-ups blaring).
Sounds simple, yeah? Ah, but we haven’t mentioned any of the
impediments to shooming. Bricks with pricks come, bricks with ice
come. Bricks with sand and cracks and flames come. BWAHAHA, and
that’s just for starters! These all require diverse strategies to
combat, making a simple flower-picking outing one that’ll stretch
your IQ to fer-TWANGing point, let it flick back to make the grey
matter yelp “ouch!”, then elasticate it again and repeat ad
infinitum... or until you nail level 100.
Short on patience? This isn’t your kind of game. Short on time? This
isn’t your kind of game. Somebody who demands instant gratification?
This isn’t your kind of game.
Persistent, time-rich and prepared to work for reward? Then this IS
your kind of game. 10/11 Doctors recommend it...
