SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2

Nintendo
Wii

It all starts innocently enough with an invitation for cake. But, as we all know, whenever Princess Peach and Mario make a date the former’s going to end up in Bowser’s clutches. They’re mighty big clutches this time around, too, for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ butt-uglier cuz has gone size queen. He’s HUUUUGE baby, and he’s not one to not brag about it (double negative – wahoo!). Cue helpless princess wailing, and one feisty moustachioed plumber going hero again.

Honestly, that princess chick’s seriously high maintenance, surely Mario could just pop into a ’net chat room and find a woman with a thing for tradies? Less jumping, more humping and all that?

Anyway, Super Mario Galaxy 2 takes everything that was amazing about the first galactic incarnation and betters it. Mr Miyamoto and his team know how to make one hell of a game, expanding on what started with Mario’s 3D debut back on the N64 console to amazing degrees over his past few outings.

The weird movement in 3D space thing still throws us a little, but otherwise every enemy you could want is there for the defeating. Mario’s natty wardrobe of funky weapon suits is expanded, and plumber’s best friend Yoshi returns, as the man in red and blue harnesses star power to rescue Peach from Bowser’s clutches. Erm, Bowser’s HUUUUUGE clutches, sorry.

When you invest in a Nintendo Mario game (excluding the naff sports ones), not only are you getting quality, you’re getting an experience you can completely lose yourself in. This one even includes an instructional DVD for n00bs! SMG2 is near gaming perfection, and we’re bloody arigatai.

take me back to the start...
