GAMESBLIP 'BLIPPY' AWARDS 2010

Overture! Light the lights! This is it! Commission of human rights!
Stupid rhyming dictionary.
Anyway, no BS, no song and dance numbers and no awkward banter,
These are our 'blippy' awards based on all the games we played in
2010. Note the use of 'our' there
– you may not agree, you make
think us mentally challenged in some cases - but ultimately they're
just one person's opinion, ours. Hoping you enjoy...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST ADVENTURE THING

ASSASSIN'S
CREED BROTHERHOOD
Ubisoft
As far as immersive adventuring went this year, it didn't get
much drownier for us than Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Click here to read
our original review...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST ARCADE THING

PAC-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION
DX/AFTER BURNER CLIMAX
Namco
Bandai/SEGA
The adrenaline rush of ABC would have won if it weren't for
that gobbly yellow thingy popping up only a few weeks back, hence
our only tie. Click here to read
our original Pac-Man review,
here for our original After
Burner Climax one.

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST CAR THING

SPLIT/SECOND
Disney
Interactive
Cue GT5 fanboy cries... but for sheer feeling of speed and racing
awesomeness, absolutely nothing beat Split/Second for us this year
– possibly the most
underrated game of 2010. Click here to read
our original review...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST FASHION THING

MAFIA II
2K Games
The game itself may not have quite hit the mark we'd hoped, but when
it came to production design Mafia II shone, from suits to
cars and beyond. Click here to read
our original review...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST FIGHTING THING

BAYONETTA
SEGA
Despite those
insane fucking loading times (originally), something about going all
supernatural belt-up with the supernanny-like Bayonetta really
rocked. Nobody was more surprised than us!

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST INDIE THING

LIMBO
Playdead
A minimalist noir quest with some really gruesome twists, even Alfred
Hitchcock would have been proud of what the Limbo guys
accomplished. Click here to read
our original review...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST MOTION THING

FLIGHT CONTROL HD
Firemint
We thought Flight Control HD was ace on iPad, but then we got our
hands on the PS3 Move incarnation. Not only did it work even better,
it was by far the best use of Sony's new tech all year.

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST MUSIC THING

ROCK BAND 3
Harmonix/MTV
Games/EA
No contest. DJ Hero 2 was great at what it did, but the sheer
scope of RB3 showed how many gigamiles Harmonix are ahead in the
music game game – and it has 'Rock Lobster'. Click here to read
our original review...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST PARTY THING

DANCE CENTRAL
Harmonix
Proving just how amazing Microsoft's Kinect tech can be, there was
no faking it with DC, you really had to shake your stuff. Enough to
get any party moving. Or should that be Kinecting?

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST PLATFORM THING

DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS
Nintendo
Yeah, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was insanely good, but the old school
difficulty and clever toying with the 2D environment in DKCR had us
sucked in like DK downing a banana smoothie.

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST SPORTY THING

NBA 2K11
2K Games
We have to be honest, we're really shit at playing this, but it
doesn't stop us trying. NBA 2K11 is the most complete console
sporting experience we've ever, erm, experienced.

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST ZOMBIE THING

CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS
Activision
A
Nazi zombie blast-fest? It worked for us, and we probably played a
bit too much of this rather than getting thwomped online in the main
event. Meh, whatever! Click here to read
our original review...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST SURPRISE THING

CASTLEVANIA: LORDS OF SHADOW
Konami
We never expected this to be everything we'd hoped God of War III
would be but wasn't quite, but it was (what a shit sentence!).
Lesson learned? Never pre-judge, as Castlevania: LoS is seriously
ace.

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST DOWNLOAD THING

LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF
LIGHT
Square
Enix
A totally different way of looking at Lara – both literally and gameplay-wise
- this harked back to the old school isometric puzzlers
we adored in the '80s. Memories! Click here to read
our original review...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST HANDHELD THING

SUPER SCRIBBLENAUTS
Warner
Bros Interactive
The first one was quite a milestone, but Super Scribblenauts went
from good to bloody good with the addition of adjectives (see what we
did there?). Click here to read
our original review...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST PLUG-IN THING

KINECT
Microsoft
Sure, not much of the software has possessed a supercalifragiwow
power yet, but we've experienced enough of the tech to have
confidence that stuff
like that will come as devs get their head further around what it
can really do.

2010 BLIPPY FOR BIGGEST FAILY THING

NAUGHTY BEAR
505
Games
Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. One of the games we looked
forward to most at the start of 2010 based on its sicko premise,
Naughty Bear was just appallingly amateurish on every level. Click here to read
our original review...

2010 BLIPPY FOR ACEST OVERALL THING

RED DEAD REDEMPTION
Rockstar
Games
Sorry, we couldn't help it. Yeah, we're about as original as Nickelback
(shudder!) giving RDR our equivalent of GotY, but its sheer
breadth of content and engagingness really knocked us out. Click here to read
our original review...
